Trezor.io/Start® – Starting Up Your Device – Trezor®

If you're entering the world of cryptocurrency, securing your assets is critical. Trezor®, a pioneer in hardware wallets, offers a highly secure and user-friendly way to manage your digital currencies. Whether you've purchased the Trezor Model One or the Trezor Model T, the starting point for setting up your device is Trezor.io/Start®—the official setup page. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the entire process of setting up your Trezor wallet, ensuring you begin your crypto journey with confidence and peace of mind.

Step 1: Visit Trezor.io/Start®

To begin, open your browser and go to Trezor.io/Start. This page is the official onboarding hub for Trezor users and will direct you to install the Trezor Suite, the all-in-one desktop or web application for managing your crypto securely. It's important to always use the official website to avoid phishing scams and counterfeit software.

Step 2: Install Trezor Suite

Once on the start page, download the Trezor Suite for your operating system—available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Trezor Suite is the central platform that allows you to send, receive, and store cryptocurrencies, update your firmware, and manage multiple wallets with ease. After downloading, follow the installation prompts and open the application.

Step 3: Connect Your Trezor Device

Plug your Trezor hardware wallet into your computer using the USB cable provided. You may see a prompt on the device’s screen asking you to confirm the connection. Follow the on-screen instructions both on your device and in the Trezor Suite app to proceed.

If you're setting up a new device, choose "Create New Wallet". If you're restoring an existing wallet, select "Recover Wallet" and enter your recovery seed when prompted.

Step 4: Firmware Installation

When using a brand-new Trezor device, it does not come with firmware pre-installed. This is a security measure to ensure the firmware has not been tampered with. Trezor Suite will prompt you to install the latest firmware. Carefully review the process and confirm it on your device. Once installed, your device will reboot and you can proceed with the setup.

Step 5: Create Your Recovery Seed

One of the most important steps in setting up your Trezor device is the generation of your recovery seed phrase. This is a 12, 18, or 24-word phrase that acts as the backup for your wallet. Write these words down on the recovery card provided in the box and store them in a secure, offline location. Never take a photo, email it to yourself, or store it digitally, as this exposes you to theft or loss.

Warning: If someone gains access to your recovery seed, they can access your funds. If you lose this seed, Trezor cannot help you recover your wallet.

Step 6: Set a PIN Code

Next, set up a secure PIN code for your device. This adds another layer of security, preventing unauthorized access even if someone gets hold of your Trezor. You will confirm the PIN both on your device and in the Trezor Suite.

Avoid using obvious PINs such as birthdays or repetitive numbers. Choose a unique PIN that only you would know.

Step 7: Access and Use Your Wallet

Once your PIN and recovery seed are secured, you’re ready to start using your Trezor wallet. Within Trezor Suite, you can:

Trezor Suite also allows for advanced functionality like coin control, Tor integration for privacy, and integration with third-party wallets and decentralized applications (dApps).
